This article is specifically aimed at Merchants who wish to enable our integration with MailChimp.
This set-up guide covers the steps you need to take to enable our Happy Birthday integration with MailChimp.
Our integration with MailChimp will push any new Birthday Club sign-up straight into MailChimp and will automatically disable email sending from within the Happy Birthday app. This article will walk you through enabling the integration.
To set-up this integration, you will need a MailChimp account. If you don't already have one, then you need to create a MailChimp account before returning to this article to follow the set-up steps.
Step 1. Generating a MailChimp API Key
If you already have a MailChimp API Key that you wish to use with the Happy Birthday integration, then, just copy the entire API Key value from your MailChimp account and move on to the next step in this guide.
If you don't already have a MailChimp API Key then you will need to generate one.
To generate a MailChimp API Key you will need to login to your MailChimp account. MailChimp Users with Manager permissions can generate and view their own API keys. Users with Admin permissions can also see API keys for other account users.
Follow the steps in the video below to generate your API Key:
Once you have generated a key, give the key a label, such as Happy Birthday Integration or Happy Birthday App so that you have a meaningful reference as to what the key is being used for should you review your MailChimp API keys at a later date:
You can now copy the API Key value and navigate back to the Happy Birthday app within your Shopify store.
Step 2. Enabling the Integration within the Happy Birthday App
Click on the Integrations link from the main navigation within the Happy Birthday app and then scroll down until you see the MailChimp integration section:
Click on the Enable MailChimp button and the page will refresh. Scroll down again to the MailChimp Section and click on the button labelled Configure your MailChimp settings:
You will then be presented with a pop-up dialogue box where you can paste in your MailChimp API Key. Paste in your MailChimp API Key and hit the Save button:
Step 3. Select a MailChimp list/audience
The pop-up dialogue box will then update to display a dropdown selector containing all of your available MailChimp Lists/Audiences. Please select one to use with the Happy Birthday App:
Select the list and then hit the Save button:
That's it, the screen will refresh and if you scroll down on the Integrations page again, you will see that the MailChimp section now displays an API key and a message informing you that no Emails will be sent from the Happy Birthday App:
When you receive your next Birthday Club sign-up, that contact will be pushed through to your MailChimp account along with two new Merge Fields, their Birthday (date of birth) and their unique Birthday Discount Link.
You will see this information as two new Merge Fields within your selected list/audience your contacts.
If the contact already exists in your MailChimp account, then we will only append the Birthday and Birthday Discount Link fields to their profile.
You will now need to set-up your Birthday email campaign and email template in MailChimp.
