This article is specifically aimed at Merchants who wish to enable our integration with SMSBump.
Once you have enabled the SMSBump integration, you will need to customise the SMS Birthday message.
Go to the Settings view within the Happy Birthday app and you will see a new setting called SMS Campaign under the Email/SMS Campaign section:
Click on the Manage button to configure your SMS campaign.
This is where you will customise the message and set the SMS scheduling options:
Compose your message and where possible, use the merge tags to pre-populate the customers first name. This gives the text a personal touch and really improves the engagement with the customer.
You can use the customer's first name[first_name], last name[last_name]or email[email]as part of this field.
Simply use square brackets and the field you wish to use, for example:
Hi [first_name], we hear that it's your Birthday!!!
There is a limit of 160 characters in an SMS. If your message including the discount page link exceeds 160 characters, it will be sent over two messages.
Discount code and link
If you are using a discount code in your Birthday campaign, we recommend that you use our automatic discount code feature. This will then allow us to populate the message with a discount page link that takes customers straight to the generate discount page. Once on the page, they can either copy the code and paste it in during checkout or, click on the SHOP NOW button/link (the label is customisable) to apply the discount automatically to their cart and begin shopping.
There is nothing to customise here, but the discount page link is 33 characters long and will automatically be appended to your message, e.g.
Days before birthday
By default, the SMS campaign is set to send the Birthday SMS on the day of the Customer's birthday.
Change the value from 0 to a positive number and your Birthday SMS will be scheduled to go out that many days before the customer's birthday.
Entering a negative number in this field will not send the birthday email that many days after the customer's birthday.
By default, the send time of the Birthday SMS is set to 10:00 in the morning. The send time is based on your store's timezone. Feel free to change the send time to suit your needs.
Find out why we think you should be sending out Birthday messages ahead of time.
The final step is to make sure that you have also customised your birthday email within the Happy Birthday app. If the SMS message is unable to be sent by SMSBump for any reason, we will send it out as a Birthday email if the contact has an email address associated with their account.
We have two articles that will help you to style and personalise the Birthday email:
