The Happy Birthday app has two Flow triggers that can be used to provide additional or alternative functionality.
They can either be used to trigger a Workflow in Shopify Flow or as a trigger to begin a Shopify Marketing Automation which then sends a Birthday email via Shopify Email.
It's up to you how you use them.

What triggers are available?
The two triggers that we make available in Happy Birthday are:
- Customer Birthday - A trigger that will be sent on a Customer's Birthday
- Captured Customer Birthday - A trigger that will be sent when a Customer joins your Birthday Club.
Please Note:
Marketing automations are available to any Merchant on a paid Shopify plan, however, Shopify Flow is only available to customers on the Shopify, Advanced, or Shopify Plus plans.
Requirements
Both of these triggers are available on any Happy Birthday plan and do not need to be turned on in order to see them within the Shopify Flow workflow builder tool or within the Shopify Marketing Automation builder tool. They are available as soon as you install the Happy Birthday app.
Both of these triggers rely on the Birthday Club member existing as a customer within your Shopify Store so that the trigger is associated with a valid Shopify Customer ID.
If the majority of your Birthday Club sign-ups have been collected via the order status page, then those members will also exist as Shopify Customers and will have a Shopify Customer ID.
If, however, you collect most of your Birthday Club sign-ups from MailChimp sign-up forms, Klaviyo Sign-Up forms, manual imports or via the Birthday Sign-up Page, then there is a likelihood that those Birthday Club members may not exist in your Shopify Store as a customer. If this sounds like your set-up, then unfortunately, our flow triggers may not be for you. These are customer focused triggers that require a Shopify Customer ID to associate with an automated event, like sending an automated customer email via Shopify Email.
The Customer Birthday trigger
If you're looking to use Shopify Email to send out your Birthday emails or use your preferred loyalty and rewards programme to award birthday bonus points, then this is the trigger you'll need.
To use Shopify Email to send out your Birthday emails, read our article on how to send Birthday Emails using Shopify Email to find out more.
The Captured Customer Birthday trigger
Our Captured Customer Birthday trigger can be put to use in a number of ways.
You can use it to let your Admin Team know when a new sign-up to your Birthday Club has occurred, or perhaps to acknowledge that the customer has successfully joined your Birthday Club, by sending them an email thanking them and outlining what they can expect and when.
Read our article on how to use the Captured Customer Birthday trigger in Shopify Flow where we walk through an example of how to use the trigger to send an internal Slack notification and email to the Admin Team.
Send/ re-send Flow Trigger
There is also an option to send/ re-send a Flow Trigger for any Birthday Club Member with a valid Shopify Customer ID. This option is useful should a Birthday capture or Birthday event have been missed and also when needing to test that your flows and triggers are working as expected. Please read our How to send / re-send a Flow Trigger? article for more details.
Need a different trigger for your Birthday email campaign?
If you have a use case that requires the addition of a new trigger, then please do get in touch with an outline of the functionality that you require and we'll let you know if it's something we can do.
